The tradition of independent authors, publishers, and booksellers has always been integral to the proliferation of new ideas and progress. We want to help keep that tradition alive.
We are a collaborative crew of creative problem solvers who want to change narrow minded social norms by empowering people to tell their own stories. We are readers, writers, storytellers, teachers, editors, publishers, and all around mischief makers. We are a group of friends from different backgrounds, in different locations, with a mixed bag of resources, who want to publish badass books and have a good time doing it.
The Pirate Press Publishing Company is a social enterprise, which means we aim to generate profit, but unlike most traditional companies, we share, donate, and reinvest our profits to create positive change in the world around us. We collaboratively create and publish books that are innovative in both content and form, and share the profits with non-profit organisations related to the titles and local to the authors.
In addition to our Open Calls and Online Bookshop, we're also building a digital creative playground for adults, because we still like to play too. We're running the Monday Stories Project, the free, all fun, no pressure creative writing sharing project. And we're offering a new Free Creative Writing Course every year, with small, simple, activities designed to be done with what you already have at home.
"The team at Pirate Press is so aware of how tender writers can be about their work. The eyes I got on my writing were incisive but sensitive in equal measure. I was totally in control of the final iteration of my piece, but I truly feel that thanks to their expert eyes, I came away with a piece that resonated even more strongly with my original intentions."
We're Taking A Break!
We've had to pause our adventures here for the foreseeable future,
because sometimes, life happens.
We hope to be able to return and start a new chapter again one day.
Please keep an eye on our Instagram for the latest news.
Thanks friends, we hope you had as much fun as we did.
